Overview
The Lost River Museum is located in a 100-year-old church and houses a collection of artifacts from early days in the valley, when Mackay was a railhead for copper mines. Included in the exhibits are mining tools, ranch implements, vintage clothing, photographs and railroad memorabilia. A special feature is a room devoted to Mackay's early newspaper history with a linotype machine and presses in addition to a display of vintage front page copies. A rotating display of collectibles from coins to valentines is also featured. A new self guided tour brochure is available, covering about 20 mining points of interest on the nearby "Mine Hill," site of nearly a century of mining.
